I got a phone call from my Step Mother saying that she had an emergency situation. My younger brother was headed to prom and his date’s makeup artist canceled on her at the very last minute. Neisa was upset and her mother couldn’t find another artist on such short notice. I wasn’t expecting it to happen this way and of course I’m sure they didn’t either.

It was 3:30 in the afternoon and I was right in the middle of handling Mom Duties as usual. I was intimidated by the timing issue because prom is a big deal. While I didn’t want to say no, I also didn’t want her to be late for senior prom. I also didn’t want to have to rush through her makeup application. We were really pressed for time and she needed an artist by 5 or 5:30.

I rushed home to get my travel kit and flew over. I could tell that some of her Mothers concern had lifted once I got there. I had Neisa to send me a picture of the makeup style she was going for prior to arriving so that I could know what look she was going for. That definitely helped me prepare mentally for the technique that I’d need to use for her.

The outcome was beautiful! Neisa loved the look and her mother was very happy that everything had finally come together. I felt enormous pressure myself with trying to be timely while all of her family and friends were waiting to see the finished result. In the end, I was elated because everyone loved the execution. I got a lot of compliments on my work and heard several times that I had saved the day! For me, this is what providing a makeup service is about.

Here’s a list of the products that I used for Neisa’s Prom Look:

Eyes: Juvias Place Warrior II Palette in colors Kufuru, Shawata and Jamata. Then I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Sultry Palette in the color Steampunk on the main lid area. I did top it off with a little loose gold glitter by J.Cat.

Face: Milk Makeup’s Hydro Grip Primer for all night staying power. Maybelline FitMe Foundation in the shade 340 Cappuccino. I lightly swept the Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush called Scortching on her gorgeous cheeks from the blush trio Cocktail Party. Palladio Matte Bronzer to warm the perimeter of her face. Last but not least, I layered highlighters using Marc Jacobs Beauty Dew Drops in Fantasy and Maybellline’s Master Chrome in 100 Molten Gold.

Lip: I used a basic dark brown lip liner and NYX Professional Makup Lip Lingerie Gloss in the color Butter.

She looked gorgeous and my brother looked just as handsome!
